The three-match Test series between Pakistan and England started at Old Trafford in Manchester on Wednesday, August 05. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first on Day 1. Recently England played against West Indies with red-ball.

However, this time England bowlers failed to take wickets as Pakistani batsmen showed great performance in a first-ever international test match after coronavirus pandemic. 

Stuart Broad and James Anderson started the match as a bowler but these bowlers couldn't provide the wicket as the opening pair of Shan Masood and Abid Ali survived the hour successfully. However, England captain brought the Jofra Archer (pacer) for attack who successful to
get a wicket and broke he opening partnership of 36 runs by taking the wicket of Abid Ali in the 16th over of first innings of Pakistan.


After that Chris Woakes all-rounder joined and take the wicket of Pakistani Captain Azhar Ali. Then Baber Azam joined the opener Shan Masood and pair added 78-run stand before rain stopped the play and tea break was also declared as well.

After the stoppage of three hours, Babar and Masood resuming the innings from 121/2. However, low light affects the match and within a few hours because of low light match stopped, Pakistan reached 139/2, with Baber (69 not out) and Masood (46 not out).  The pair added 96-runs stand
on Day 1 in 49 overs.

Baber Azam completed his 14th half-century and 25 years old just 81 runs away to reach the 2000-run milestone.

And for England Anderson and Broad went wicketless and Archer and Woakes picked one wicket each on an opening day
